Cape Town international airport police had been "making major breakthroughs in the fight against crime, specifically against drugs", National spokesperson Captain Dennis Adriao said. (From IOL)
Adriao gave police arrest figures from all national ports of entry, including airports, harbours and border posts, over the week of 30 January to 5 February. (one week!!)
Eleven people were arrested for possession of dagga with a total value of R170m and another person was arrested for being in possession of 5 690 grams of cocaine worth R1.6m.
Eleven people were caught with R170million worth of cannabis? At R40/gram that is 4 and a quarter tons. Major breakthroughs are being made in how crimes are being reported, because not one "ton plus" cannabis busts has been reported in the last two weeks. That is R15million rand's worth of cannabis on average for each person and none of it is reported?
